What Is Dance Grading? This event is designed as a valuable opportunity for students to receive feedback on their dancing from qualified judges and dance professionals, to help develop their dancing further. This event is also a fantastic opportunity to experience the glamour of a competitive ballroom competition, and gain confidence in their dancing, without the pressure of competition. Students who enter can enjoy the opportunity to dance in front of friends and family, dress up, and feel part of the Move With Me student community.
-
Who Should Enter The Event? It is recommended that any students who attend group classes regularly participate in this event, for not only the experience, but to challenge themselves and meet other dancers in the community. All levels of dancers are welcome, from Beginner to Advanced levels. You are not competing against other students, and steps will be at the difficulty appropriate to your entry level, so please don’t be nervous about giving it a try! It is also recommended to enter if you are new to the studio, and would like to take part in a fun event to meet other dancers.
-
What Happens In The Grading Event?Students will enter the dance floor with their instructor, and dance for approximately 90 seconds. To ensure the feedback is given on their dance skills, the heat will be a lead and follow style, rather than a choreographed routine. Three judges will be assessing the student, and marking down comments which will give the student valuable feedback on what they are doing well, and what areas they could focus on to ensure continual improvement. This feedback is a wonderful opportunity to find out what goals you can set for yourself in future to become a more well-rounded dancer, particularly in preparation for the annual student showcase and student competitions, in the coming months.
-
Can I Just Watch?Absolutely! Spectator tickets will be on sale for the daytime event, as well as tickets to the evening soiree! Day Ticket: $15 Soiree Ticket: $35 Combo Ticket: $40
-
What Kind Of Feedback Will I Receieve? You will receive a certificate of participation on the day. After the conclusion of the event, a printout of detailed feedback on your dancing will be provided to you. Your feedback can be read privately, to protect your privacy, and your instructors will be more than happy to help you implement the judges’ feedback in your future lessons. Feedback could include general feedback about timing, topline, posture, rhythm, presentation, and floorcraft, however judges will also aim to give specific feedback with examples where possible.
-
What Is The Dress Code?Students may choose from: Smart Casual - Black or coloured dress, skirt or dress pants. Full Competition Wear - Ballgowns and suits.
